The Vedic Dharm and Modern Science 1

The Vedic Dharm And Modern Science

(An Exploration)

Part - I

Chapter 1

(Foreword Prof. B. R. Chawla, President)

There are several special features inherent in the research work produced by our Institute. The main points are mentioned below:-

The Part II of the composition is based on the nine lectures on Vedic Dharm presented by our director on various occasions before the honourable members of the Institute for discussion, debate and opinion. The ideas that emerged thereafter have been excellently presented in the holistic form.

The macroscopic view of Vedic Dharm depicted in Session VII of the book is very informative & mind blowing. The second and very important work highlighted is the discussion on science of symbolism, which is the heart of Vedic Dharm. The third point worth mentioning is regarding Nirakar (formless) and Saakar (with form) worship of God, which is a unique technique.

Chapter 2

(Introduction – Dr. Rakesh Saxena Chief Editor)

Dr.Awadh Bihari Lal Gupta (Tanmay) has dedicated his life to the research on ancient indian scriptures and their relevance to contemporary times since 1990. To promote the research on Vedic Dharm and Modern Science and to make it accessible to the scholars, he had founded “The Institute for Teaching Scientific Religion” on 6th October 2002.

After more than three years of persistent and untiring efforts by Dr. Tanmaya the “Institute” brought out a book ‘Manava Dharm ka Vigyan’ in Hindi, which was highly appreciated by the great personalities like Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Immidiate Past President of India, Padam Vibhushan Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, Director General of C. S. I.& R. (Retd.) and Secretary to Govt. of India, Swami Gokulanand, the Head and Secretary Rama Krishna Mission, Delhi and many other distinguished dignitories, and persons. Subsequent to several suggestion, it was felt that English version of the said book should also be made available to the scientific world. By the great effort of Dr. Tanmaya, this first English version has been brought out by the institute.

Chapter 3

(Preface: Dr. Vijay Kaushik, Director,
Russian Indian Heritage Academy, Moscow)

We are living in the era of material sciences. These are based on analysis, evidence and rational thinking. Dr. Tanmay has felt the necessity of all the three in the field of religion also. This English version ‘The Vedic Dharm and Modern Science’ is the consequence of the same. The author has excellently established perfect co-ordination between ‘Sanatan (eternal) Vedic Dharm’ and the modern science.

I pray the Almighty, that this scripture be welcomed by the scientific world and the knowledge generated by it may guide the humanity, so that the restlessness and violence prevailing on the globe may be mitigated. May the entire humanity live in peace. (Sarve bhavantu sukhinah, sarve santu niramaya; sarve bhadrani pashyantu, maa kashchid dukh bhag bhavet).

Chapter 4

(From the Author – Tanmay)

My loving mother gave me religious teachings right when I was a child. Subsequently, I developed a taste in science perhaps due to pre-birth samskars. So, I read number of such books, which contained religious as well as scientific knowledge. During the period 1963-1966, I got an opportunity to read Hindi version of the lectures of Swami Vivekananda available in ten volumes at Rama Krishna Mission Library, Delhi. It gave me an impression, that Religion has a marked relation with science. During 1980, I came across the commentaries on upnishads and Srimad Bhagwad Geeta written by Swami Chinmayananda. This convinced me, that science is inherent in Vedic Dharm.
